AI Policy

We don’t allow AI-generated content for Lancer Tactics.

That includes mods as well as fan creations (art, videos, writing). We’ll remove mods from mod.io that we learn used AI in their creation, as well as art and other works posted in the Discord or other Lancer Tactics spaces that we host.

We know that people use LLMs for a variety of purposes. There may be a future world where this technology can be produced and used in a way that enhances human well-being. However, as it exists today, when we look at the impact that AI has had on the game industry overall, we see it deployed to undermine dignity, creativity, and labor. Despite any utility it may have on the small scale, we feel it’s important to have Lancer Tactics stand for the same human connections that brought Lancer itself this far by divesting from AI. We’re also holding ourselves to this standard internally: our studio prohibits using AI at all steps of the development process.

Our hope is that this makes opportunities to bring the community together. Both the Discord and our wiki are full of people willing to help answer questions and teach each other. Modders interacting with each other and the wiki results in a healthier collective knowledgebase. If a Q&A session is lost when the Claude session closes, there is no opportunity for other people to learn from those questions. We know this may lead to fewer mods being created for Lancer Tactics overall, but we hope that they’ll be higher quality & products of human collaboration.

Thanks for helping us build a better Lancer Tactics, everyone.

Reporting

If you find evidence that a mod or other piece content we’re hosting is AI-generated, please contact a community moderator on the Discord server or send an email to contact(at)lacewing.games. Your report should include:

  • A link to the suspected content
  • A screenshot or description of what makes you think it is AI-generated

The reality is that it’s extremely difficult to determine for sure if a piece of content was produced with AI technology if they sanitize the markers. We will err on the side of requiring strong evidence to take something down because it’s impossible to catch 100% of cases, it’s better to let something through the net than alienate a good-faith creator, and a pattern of AI usage will eventually betray itself.

Mod Enforcement Procedure

We expect this policy to be tested on the modding front. As such, we’ve developed this procedure for handling reports of AI-generated mods hosted on our mod.io repository. This procedure may change without notice as we adapt it to our capabilities and what we need it to respond to.

  1. Player suspects that game mod is created with AI
  2. Player reports suspicion to moderator on Discord with preliminary evidence via DM, e.g.
    1. Screenshot of code
    2. Mention from other posts (outside Discords, etc)
  3. Moderator reviews:
    1. Decides if it’s credible/worth pursuing. Consult the incident log for possible prev context.
    2. Makes an incident log and notifies dev team.
  4. If moderator decided it was worth pursuing, Dev Team opens the mod and inspects
    1. If it looks possibly AI generated:
      1. Dev Team tells the moderator.
      2. Moderator reaches out to creator (on Discord if possible, otherwise mod.io) and inquires for more information.
    2. If it does not look AI generated:
      1. Skip to 6.
  5. If the inspection + inquiry determines it’s very likely to be AI generated:
    1. Moderator delists it from mod.io
  6. Update the incident log with results
  7. Inform parties:
    1. Moderator message the creator to let them know results of our decision
    2. Moderator goes back to reporting Player to update on results
