We’re looking for a Godot programmer who can help stay on top of & work through our bug backlog.
Our Trello backlog for Lancer Tactics is currently sitting at 207 bug tickets and 202 UI improvement tickets. That’s a lot, and more are coming in near-daily. We’re still about a year out from Steam launch, so we’re gonna need some help to make sure the game is ship-shape by then.
If you’re fluent in Godot & GDscript, comfortable wading into in-progress projects, and are available for about 12 months of part-time work, we’d love to chat! An ideal applicant would also be familiar with Lancer or similar tabletop RPG experiences (or down to learn the system), have experience with QA pipelines (eg automated testing and error reporting), and can work semi-autonomously.
We encourage people from marginalized backgrounds to apply.
This job posting will stay open for at least two weeks (until September 12) and then either close (if we’ve found someone) or stay open on a rolling basis until we fill the role.
Responsibilities
- Regularly meet to process & prioritize incoming and backlogged tickets.
- Semi-autonomously work through and close out bug tickets.
- We expect there to a substantial on-boarding period as you learn the system & ongoing communication throughout, but a lot of the tickets will require independence and the ability to make judgement calls to fix when in the weeds.
- Communicate with players on the Discord server or email when more information is needed about their ticket.
Qualifications & what we’re looking for
- Fluency in GDscript and the Godot engine.
- Bonus points if you’ve already played the game or experimented with its modkit.
- Experience working in multi-year commercial game projects.
- Bonus points if you have experience in performance profiling or rendering pipelines.
- Experience setting up/improving/working with automated testing, error reporting, or ticket reconciliation systems.
- Ability to communicate clearly and often.
- The better you match time-wise the North American west coast the better.
- Bonus points if you’re close enough to Portland for us to at least occasionally meet up in person.
- (Being remote further afield can still work though)
Hours & Compensation
- $40/hr
- Starting at 20 hr/week, contract position.
- We may have the possibility of moving anywhere up to 40 hr/week depending on our funding & your availability.
- Paid monthly on submission of a timesheet with hours tracked by you.
To apply, send an email introducing yourself with your qualifications to olive@wick.works with the text “Bugfixer” somewhere in the subject line so my automatic filter can categorize it correctly. Please do not use AI to generate your email.
